Amazing Crash Finishes Off The Indy 500

Memorial Day means BBQ’s, reflection on our lost soldiers, and of course…….The Indianapolis 500.  Though the race has lost its luster since the late 80′s and 90′s (due to horrible marketing), it still manages to attract over 350,000 spectators.  How many people are watching at home is a different story.  But what makes motorsports so spectacular isn’t the pit stops, it’s the crashes.  26 year old, Mike Conway, was injured on lap 199 of 200 of the Indianapolis 500 in one of the craziest wrecks we’ve seen in a long time.  As Conway was exiting the chute between turn 3 and 4, the car in front of him (driven by Ryan Hunter-Reay) ran out of gas.  No time for brakes.  Conway’s car lifted off the ground and into the safety fence.  The wreck resulted in a car torn in half and a helicopter taking Conway to the hospital.  Conway had multiple fractions in his lower left leg and a compression fracture of his back.  He will be out of racing for the next 3 months recovering.  What’s amazing about this whole accident is that Conway lived.  Watch the crazy video below:
