It’s a slow day in the sporting world (except if you are in Miami). Not much is going on. The NBA is going about their regular schedule, the NFL is prepping for the Super Bowl, college football is a day away from signing their recruiting classes, and the Olympics are two weeks away. But, last night history happened.
In a 95-93 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, Kobe Bryant scored 44points to move past Jerry West as the Los Angeles Lakers all-time leading scorer. That means that out of a star-studded list of Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul Jabar, James Worthy, Shaquille O’Neal, Jerry West, and Elgin Baylor…..Kobe is King. I haven’t always liked Kobe Bryant. And I still despise the Kobe of old. But, over the past 2 seasons I’ve seen him mature and become the player that I always wanted him to be. A player that can be a leader by example. He’s become a well rounded player who is unselfish with the ball, pushes himself on the defensive end, and makes all his teammates better. The latter being the most important. He’s lost the immature, bratty, selfish ways and become the complete package, a King of Courts.
