A field of 10 3-year-olds are entered into today’s Santa Anita Derby. Many consider this the West Coast’s biggest prep race before the Kentucky Derby. Trainer Bob Baffert’s entry, Lookin At Lucky (4-5) is the odds on favorite to win the race. Baffert seems very calm and confident that his horse will run just fine. He’s more worried about getting out of the race healthy. “I just want him to come out of the race healthy and alive,” his trainer, Bob Baffert, said Wednesday morning at Santa Anita. “It’s not a do-or-die race for me. If I can keep him fit and healthy, he can carry me the rest of the way.”
Other notable horses in the field are Sidney’s Candy (3-1), Caracortado (5-1), and Alphie’s Bet (8-1). The remaining horses will probably be non-factors and are listed at 15-1 or higher. Obviously, this is a high stakes race, but you can bet that most of these trainers have their eyes on the Triple Crown races starting next month.
1st- Sidney’s Candy
2nd- Lookin At Lucky
3rd- Who’s Up (I’ve got to throw a longshot in there to help out the superfecta payout)
4th- Alphie’s Bet
A good bet would be to box any of these 4 picks in a trifecta. Make sure you don’t get too crazy and leave out Lookin At Lucky though. Good Luck!
